Dr. Gezahgn Wordofa
Dr. Gezahgn Wordofa is the General Director of the OPORA, whose overall goal is to assist refugees and asylum seekers with local integration and / or other more permanent solutions. Dr. Gezahgn Wordofa has helped to establish a link between the refugees struggling in Moscow and the Russian Federation: handling talks with government and immigration departments, arranging schooling, finding permanent forms of shelter, assisting in finding work for those who are able, providing safe places for children to play, organizing daily programs that assist in feeding those who cannot feed themselves, and organizing other events to help children and their families celebrate holidays together.
Born in Nazret, a rural town outside of Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, Dr. Wordofa is a Relief and Developmental Professional who has worked for UNICEF and various other humanitarian organizations and visited many countries that provide refuge. He has over twelve years of experience in development and management of humanitarian aid programs including rural livelihoods, food, housing and security programs. He has been involved with proposal development, strategic and operational planning, budget planning & management, monitoring and evaluation, and report writing. He received degrees in Agriculture and Animal Science, and Environment and Irrigation. In May 2004, Dr. Wordofa received a PhD in International Relations and Refugee Affairs from the Russian Humanitarian State University in Moscow, and was also named a “World Ambassador for Peace” by the Social Academy of Russia.
His Plan is to also help those now who are living in Ethiopia. His goal is to create stability within small villages. He has created a plan to establish wells throughout the communities to better access water, and providing them an education and training in a skill or profession so that women can become the main factor in economic change in their communities.
